The Shuttle Radar Topography Mission, or SRTM, was a joint project between NASA and the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency. Launched in 2000, its goal was to create a digital elevation model of the Earth's surface using radar data collected from the Space Shuttle Endeavour.
The mission successfully mapped 80% of the Earth's land surface, generating detailed topographic maps with a resolution of 30 meters. These maps have been used for a variety of applications, including environmental monitoring, urban planning, and disaster response.
SRTM was a groundbreaking mission that revolutionized the way we view and understand the Earth's topography.
